I love bikes. I love riding bikes, looking at bikes, and taking bikes apart just to put them back together again with better parts. A few years back I decided to design the perfect city bike for myself. I immersed myself in the world of frame geometry and bicycle design, to create the most comfortable bike I could. I was inspired by French randonneur bicycles – practical designs with big tires and lots of accessories, comfortable for all day riding.

Once I had a plan, I went looking for a local framebuilder. Luckily Minneapolis has a vibrant bike culture with many talented builders. I approached Alex Cook at A-Train and we worked out a trade – I photographed bikes for him, and he made my frame. Since a good bicycle and photography are two of my favorite things, it was the perfect collaboration. Nowadays Alex is building incredible custom bikes for Northern Frameworks.
